Secure Multi-Org Data-Sharing (SMODS) named finalist in the 2026 NSW iAwards

We are proud to announce that the Secure Multi-Organisational Data-Sharing (SMODS) platform has been named a finalist in the 2026 NSW iAwards under the Government & Public Sector category.

Following its selection as a finalist in the 2025 NSW iAwards under the Technology Platform category, SMODS has once again been recognised by the iAwards program, this time in the Government & Public Sector category.

Developed by the University of Technology Sydney in partnership with World Data Exchange and supported by the Connectivity Innovation Network, an initiative of NSW Telco Authority, SMODS enables organisations to securely share multimedia data in real time while retaining ownership and control of their information.

Why it matters

During emergencies, timely access to trusted information can be critical for coordination and decision-making. However, organisations often face challenges related to data silos, interoperability and privacy requirements.

SMODS addresses these challenges through a decentralised and privacy-preserving approach to data sharing, supporting secure collaboration across organisations when it matters most.

Importantly, SMODS is the first platform globally to implement the Australian Computer Society’s Data Sharing Framework, aligning with emerging international standards for secure data interoperability. By enabling trusted information sharing between agencies, SMODS demonstrates the potential of innovative technologies to support government and emergency services operations.

CIN congratulates Dr Xu Wang, Professor Ren Ping Liu, World Data Exchange and the broader project team on this recognition.

The winners of the 2026 NSW iAwards will be announced at the ceremony on 23 June 2026.
