Ian Oppermann

Director

Dr Ian Oppermann is a Digital Economy thought leader, a highly-cited researcher, and a regular speaker about big data, broadband enabled services and the impact of technology on society. An Associate Industry Professor in the Faculty of Engineering & IT at UTS, Ian is also the NSW Government’s Chief Data Scientist working within the Department of Customer Service. He chairs the NSW Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee and the NSW Smart Places Advisory Council. Ian has nearly 30 years’ experience in the Information and Communication Technology sector and has led large organisations that deliver products and services that have reached millions of people around the world.

Joe Zhu

Co-Director

Prof J. G. (Joe) Zhu was a distinguished professor at UTS. He joined the University of Sydney as a full professor and Head of  the School of Electrical and Information Engineering in 2018. He is a leading researcher in power electronics.

Jay Guo

Technical Director

Prof. Y. Jay Guo is the Director of Global Big Data Technologies Centre and Distinguished Professor at UTS. Jay is an internationally established scientist with 600+ publications including five books, 600+ research papers including 280+ IEEE journal papers and 26 granted international patents. He is regarded as a world-leading researcher in communications antenna systems and 6G technologies. He has over 20 years of experience working as a technology leader in the global wireless industry including Siemens, NEC and Fujitsu in Europe as well as at CSIRO. Jay is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Engineering and Technology and a Fellow of IEEE. He is an innovator with strong and sustained global industrial impact, having won a number of prestigious awards.

Yonghui Li

Co-Technical Director

Yonghui Li received his PhD degree in November 2002. Since 2003, he has been with the Centre of Excellence in Telecommunications, at the University of Sydney. Yonghui is now a Professor and the Director of Wireless Engineering Laboratory in the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, University of Sydney. He is the recipient of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Queen Elizabeth II Fellowship in 2008 and ARC Future Fellowship in 2012. He is an IEEE Fellow for contributions to cooperative communications technologies.

Genie Tan

Chief Operating Officer

Genie Tan is the Operations Manager for the Global Big Data Technologies Centre at UTS. Genie provides strategic advice and delivers proactive, senior executive support in all research and engagement activities. Genie is skilled at building relationships and facilitating collaborations within the University and with Industry. Genie is a member of the Research Communications Working Group, Research Management committee and International Engagement Compliance Committee at UTS. Genie also currently serves on the Governance committee of a multi-party Defence Project, with the Defence Science & Technology Group.
