Driving the next phase of emergency connectivity: VaaN Call for Proposals opening soon
The Connectivity Innovation Network will soon open a new Call for Proposals focused on Vehicle as a Node (VaaN)technologies, inviting CIN members to contribute to the next phase of innovation in emergency communications.
The call will support short, focused research projects that address a real and persistent challenge faced by emergency services: how to extend reliable Wi-Fi coverage well beyond emergency vehicles in environments where existing communications networks are limited, congested or unavailable.
Vehicle as a Node approaches have the potential to significantly improve situational awareness, coordination and operational effectiveness during emergencies, particularly in regional, remote and disaster-affected areas. By enabling vehicles to act as connectivity hubs, VaaN technologies can help bridge coverage gaps and support critical communications when they are needed most.
This Call for Proposals is designed to encourage practical, tightly scoped research with clear real-world relevance. Projects are expected to be delivery-focused and capable of producing meaningful outcomes within a short timeframe.
The call will be open to CIN members applying individually or as a consortium. The call is expected to open on Thursday, 5 February and close on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.
