The Regional Connectivity Symposium is CIN’s annual flagship event designed to address the real-world connectivity challenges facing regional, rural and remote communities across New South Wales.

Held at Charles Sturt University’s Wagga campus, the 2024 symposium brings together researchers, government representatives, industry leaders and community stakeholders for two days of deep, place-based discussion and collaboration. The event showcases emerging technologies, local initiatives, and live demonstrations that are helping to shape a more resilient and inclusive connectivity landscape.

Day 1 focuses on the role of digital infrastructure in sustainable farming, with keynote insights from Jon Medway, Director of the Global Digital Farm.

Day 2 shifts to broader connectivity challenges and innovations, featuring opening remarks by CIN Director Dr Ian Oppermann and regional perspectives from local government, industry and emergency services.

Throughout the event:

  • CIN’s Large Area Wi-Fi (LAWiFi) system is demonstrated live, highlighting its potential to transform internet access in underserved areas.

  • The NSW Telco Authority shares its vision for whole-of-government connectivity, including initiatives like the Public Safety Network, Community Connectivity Kits, and Broadband Drones.

  • A cross-sector panel explores the barriers and opportunities shaping regional telecommunications, 5G rollout, and satellite services.

  • Speakers from AgriFutures, NBN Co, Zetifi and the NSW Smart Sensing Network discuss affordability, service gaps, sensing technologies and digital inclusion.

  • Emergency services voices add critical insights on operational resilience and network reliability during disasters.

The Regional Connectivity Symposium in Wagga Wagga creates space for practical collaboration, region-led innovation, and new approaches to improving connectivity across NSW.
