The Connectivity Innovation Network will be joining emergency management professionals, first responders, researchers and industry leaders from across Australia and beyond at AFAC26 Conference & Exhibition, held in Melbourne from 18–21 August 2026.
AFAC26 is Australasia’s largest emergency management conference and exhibition, bringing together the fire and emergency services sector to share knowledge, explore emerging technologies and strengthen collaboration across emergency management and disaster resilience.
Visit CIN at the Innovation Hub
For the first time, CIN will have a presence at AFAC, joining the TPG–UTS Network Sensing Lab at the Innovation Hub.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about a number of CIN-supported research and innovation projects exploring how emerging connectivity and data technologies can strengthen emergency response and community resilience.
Projects showcased will include:
- Secure Multi-Organisation Data Sharing (SMODS) – enabling secure, governed and real-time information sharing between organisations.
- Rapidly Deployable Large Area WiFi (LAWiFi) – extending connectivity across large areas to support communications in remote locations and during emergencies.
- Wireless Rain Gauge – using existing mobile network signals to provide real-time rainfall sensing and support improved flood intelligence.
- Vehicle-as-a-Node (VaaN) WiFi Antenna – extending WiFi coverage from emergency service vehicles to support connectivity in the field.
CIN Technical Director to present on Network Sensing
CIN Director Distinguished Professor Jay Guo will also present at the AFAC26 Solutions Theatre on:
“Network Sensing and the Flood & Storm Digital Twin Technology with NSW SES”
The presentation will explore the development of world-leading Network Sensing technology and a Flood & Storm Digital Twin designed to provide highly accurate, real-time rainfall and water-level sensing, as well as predictive flood intelligence.
The technology has the potential to provide emergency services with earlier and more detailed information to support operational decision-making, resource deployment and flood preparedness and response.
